A man is in custody after six people were shot dead at multiple locations in a rural village in Tate County, Mississippi.

Tate County Sheriff Brad Lance told CNN that the suspect, 52-year-old Richard Dale Crum, allegedly opened fire on his ex-wife on Friday.

He was arrested later that day and charged with first-degree murder.

According to reports, the victims include a man who was shot dead in a store and a woman who was killed in a house.

Among the victims was the suspect’s ex-wife’s new fiancé, according to CNN. Presumably, one of those killed was the stepfather of the suspect.

The last two victims appear to have been construction workers working on the site, the sheriff said.

All of the shootings took place in Arkabutla, a community of less than 300 people about 40 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee.

A sheriff’s deputy noticed a car matching the description of the suspect’s car and tried to stop him. As the driver continued, the cop gave chase, which led to the driveway to another house where the suspect was arrested, WJTV reported.

In the same house, officers found two more victims, one dead in the car and the other on the road, WJTV reported.

CNN reported that sheriff’s deputies found several handguns and a shotgun in the suspect’s car.

Police have yet to confirm a possible motive.
