Mayo nurses provide input on new facility via VR tour

Nurses used virtual reality to tour the 290,000-square-foot, $198 million Mayo Clinic hospital under construction in La Crosse, Wis., the La Crosse Tribune reported Dec. 20.

The nurses toured virtual procedure rooms, intensive care units, and labor and delivery rooms to provide input and get a feel for the space.

“We wanted to start having conversations around the equipment in the space, the things that are mounted to the walls, whether it’s lights or anesthesia machines, all the way down to the glove box holders, and make sure everything is in the right location,” Nick Worden, facilities project services supervisor for the new hospital’s construction, told the newspaper. “It gives them a spatial relationship, how they are going to work in the space.”

The hospital is set to be completed in 2024.
