7 draft prospects that should be on the radar of Buffalo Bills fans during NFL Scout Week

INDIANAPOLIS — Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott is hoping that general manager Brandon Bean will allow their team to take the best player available in the April draft by adding him to the free agent list later this month.

The problem for Bean is that currently the Bills have to drop dollars off the salary cap to stay within the team limit and they’ll have to make a few moves to have room to replenish the roster. The Bills’ powerhouses are set to enter the draft, paying quarterback Josh Allen a northerly $250 million over the life of his contract.

The scores consist of six picks in this year’s draft and in the latest SHOUT! The Bills podcast is a conversation with CBS Sports drafting expert Chris Trapasso. He discusses several players who could be great for the Bills and players fans should keep a close eye on when televised practice begins on Thursday. Let’s run through the seven names Trapasso gave on the show, which you can watch in full in the video at the top of the page.

1. Jayden Reed, WR, Michigan Street

Reid will not be selected in the first round. The obvious recipients in this range are Jackson Smith-Njigba of Ohio State and Jordan Addison of the University of Southern California. But if you’re hoping that Billy will go on the attack or maybe even out of the penalty area in the tight end, then no. Reid, 27, could be someone to watch on Day 2 of the draft.

Trapasso said he got a strong impression of Stephon Diggs from Reid when he went back and reviewed his recording during the pre-draft process. Bean said on Tuesday that he is always looking for weapons for Allen, and Trapasso believes Reid could provide an extra runaway bonus after being caught.

“You saw him beat the press all the time on the line – he was really good in the Senior Bowl, by the way,” Trapasso said. “He’s about the size of Diggs – 5-11, 190 – a very thin route runner, head fake, shoulder fake, works well with his arms and he plays like he’s 6ft 3in. He’s great in controversial situations and most importantly, he gives you that suddenness, contact balance after the catch. He may be available in the third round.”

2. Jack Campbell, LB, Iowa

If the Bills lose Tremaine Edmunds as free agents, Campbell could be the best choice in the draft to step in on day one and start defending the Bills. Campbell’s test results could push him into the second round and it could be a valuable spot for Buffalo.

“He’s already covering things very well and I think he’s a three-down player,” Trapasso said.

Campbell spoke to the media in Indianapolis on Wednesday and said that eyes and legs – the ability to diagnose a game and react – are indispensable traits of linebackers in today’s game.

“The psychological aspect of a midfielder is the most important part so that he can perform at the highest level,” he said. “I feel like I come from the University of Iowa, from the program led by Kirk Ferenc and our approach to things. I feel like I’m already out of the professional level system and how we work there as an organization. I think it will help me take my game to the next level.”

3. Jarrett Patterson, IOL, Notre Dame

Patterson is similar to Schmitz in that he spent a lot of time as an offensive lineman in college and played several positions. Trapasso said that while Patterson is clearly not as talented as Quenton Nelson, he offers real potential value depending on where he goes in the draft. Trapasso said Patterson’s test results could lift or lower him slightly in the draft.

“He’s one of those longtime Notre Dame starters,” Trapasso said. “He kind of matches what the Bills like philosophically. He needs to get stronger, but in terms of athleticism, I think he is exactly what Aaron Kromer likes, and I think he will be available in the third round.

4. G’Air Brown, S., Pennsylvania

Trapasso compares Brown in the NFL to Jordan Poyer, Bill’s free agent. In a few weeks, the 31-year-old will hit the open market, and all indications are that he will find a new home for a lot of money. The bills should find a replacement in the draft, given the uncertainty surrounding Damar Hamlin, who continues to seek medical attention as he continues to recover from a heart attack on the field in January in Cincinnati.

Trapasso said that Brown reminds him of Poyer because he can play loose safety or strong safety and shows great versatility. “He’s smart, he’s nervous and plays very well in the box,” he said.

5. Parker Washington, WR, PA

Washington’s test scores could lift him up in the rankings because Trapasso doesn’t think he’s exactly a Deebo Samuel clone, but there will be some comparisons to the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver. Washington’s game against Ohio State last season was enough to convince Trapasso that he could be a perfect no. 2 receivers in addition to Diggs.

6. Diane Henley, LB, Washington St.

Henley is a linebacker who can play in linebacker Mike’s spot or outside. He began his college career as a slot receiver, moved to safety and then ended his career as a linebacker. The Bills have a track record of developing a player who went from fullback to linebacker in Matt Milano’s All-Pro.

7. Cavon Merryweather, South America, Iowa

Merryweather is likely to be drafted on Day 3, and there are some similarities to current Bills quarterback Micah Hyde, who was drafted in the fifth round back in 2013. cassette.
