Three months later, Harlem man involved in fatal crash: NYPD

A Harlem man who police believe ran over a woman on the Upper East Side just before Christmas last year was arrested Friday and charged with her hit-and-run death.

Shevon Cintron, 40, was crossing Third Avenue at East 96th Street on December 8, just after 6 p.m., when Donovan Stewart, 23, on his way downtown, cut her off at a crosswalk, sending her into the path of an MTA bus also bound for north, according to the NYPD Accident Investigation Unit.

The bus driver pulled over after the crash, but Stewart, who lives on Fifth Avenue near 125th Street, continued to ride in his dark-colored sedan, police said.

Paramedics arriving at the scene found Cintron’s broken body in the driveway and took her to Morningside Hospital at Mount Sinai, where she was pronounced dead.

Police can’t say how they caught up with Stewart three months after that fatal crash, but he was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of leaving the scene of the crash.

His indictment was expected on Saturday.
