Young couple and toddler die after house fire in Adirondacks

Saranac, New York – A 2-year-old boy and a young couple died in a house fire in the small town of Adirondacks this weekend, the military said.

The couple, Robert D. Wely, 21, Katlynn D. Damour, 23, and Diesel A. Cook, 2, of Saranac, Clinton County, were found dead in their home, according to a state police press release.

According to a GoFundMe created by Veli’s relative, Veli and Damur were expecting a son together. According to a GoFundMe organizer, Cook was Damur’s son.

Around 3:33 a.m. Saturday, first responders received a call about a house fire with people stuck inside in the tiny village of Redford in the city of Saranac, the military said.

According to the military, when the police and firefighters arrived, they saw a completely flooded two-story house. According to the soldiers, Veli, Damour, and Cook are trapped inside.

Three others were in the single-family home when the fire broke out, said Eric Day, director of emergency services for Clinton County. The other three people managed to escape the house safely.

Day didn’t know how the young family was trapped inside the house. According to Day, they were found dead after the fire was contained.

The fire is still being investigated, security officials said, but there were no initial signs of suspicious activity.

GoFundMe for the family has already raised over $40,000 for wakes and funerals.
