Woman ‘carefully’ alerted police to avoid kidnapping during traffic stop: report

The woman who claimed to have been kidnapped managed to avoid the situation by signaling to a Pennsylvania state police officer at a bus stop.

WFMZ reports that a woman and her husband paid Michael Grimm, 43, and an unidentified woman $300 to drive them from Rochester, New York, to Reading on Feb. 10. Grimm stopped a car in Plymouth, Lucerne County when an unidentified woman staged a medical emergency.

When the victim’s husband got out of the car to help, the victim claims that Grimm drove off and held her at gunpoint. Investigators said Grimm and an unidentified woman later forced the victim to give them an ATM card and PIN.

Later that night, Grimm’s car was pulled over by Pennsylvania State Police in Perry Township, Berks County for a traffic violation. While the vehicle was stopped, WFMZ reports that the victim “did a good job alerting soldiers to the situation discreetly” by whispering and using an electronic device to signal that she needed help.

A soldier pulled a female passenger out of the car, and then the driver “fled out of the stop at very high speed,” State Police Officer Ethan Brownback told WFMZ.

It is reported that the victim was not injured.

Grimm was eventually arrested in Buffalo. No details have been released about his unidentified companion.
