Perhaps no one loves a pizza rating better than New Yorkers, and a recent list named the top 10 cities for pizza in America, including one subway in upstate New York.
USA Today reported that Buffalo, the chicken wing city, recently ranked ninth in America’s top 10 cities for pizza.
The list, compiled by Clever Real Estate, ranked 50 cities using a set of metrics including Google Trends data on “passion for pizza”, Yelp rankings, number of pizzerias per capita, local pizza prices, and a survey of 1,000 people. Upstate New York is among places like Detroit, Michigan; Phoenix, Arizona; Denver, Colorado and others.
In a study by Clever Real Estate, they not only named Buffalo first in their overall rankings, but also ranked seventh among cities with the best pizza reputation, according to a survey of average Americans.
Western New York pizza on a cup and grill isn’t the only style garnering attention in this study. Buffalo also placed second in the wood-fired pizza category, just behind Portland, Oregon.
So how did Buffalo end up at the top of this pizza list?
Clever Real Estate writes that Buffalo has more than twice as many pizzerias as the average city in their study. They also scored 85 on the Google Trends metric for pizza-related search terms, with the most searches for breakfast pizza, tomato pie, and New York-style pizza.
The study also mentions the best places in Buffalo for pizza: La Nova and Bocce Club Pizza. La Nova was a finalist in newyorkupstate.com’s 2016 Best Pizza in Upstate New York.
If you want to try those best slices, the real estate blog writes that anyone looking to plan a cheese trip should focus on what they call the “bark belt” which includes all the states, like New York, that border on Lake Erie.
