Wet morning shopping trip as San Diego County sees more rain, snow and wind

Get ready for some rainier weather as the historic winter season isn’t over yet with rain, snow and wind in San Diego County.

Inclement weather will make Wednesday morning commute messy as the storm rages over the region. Heavy rain is forecast to drop measurable rain across much of San Diego County in the morning as mountain communities face even more snow than has already been delivered.

“It persists through the first half of the day, but we’re going to see a little break in the rain late this morning and then things really clear up in the afternoon,” NBC 7 meteorologist Sheena Parvin said. .

Before the weather clears, snow levels could drop to 2,000 feet Wednesday night, NBC 7 meteorologist Dagmar Midcap said. By the time the storm clears Thursday, up to 2 feet of snow is possible at about 5,000 feet by the time the storm clears Thursday, Midcup said.

A winter storm warning is in effect in the mountains of San Diego County until 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

During the latest storm, a huge sinkhole swallowed up part of the sidewalk, according to NBC 7’s Marie Payton.

As for rain, about half an inch of rain can be expected from this storm system in coastal areas; the hinterland can get more than an inch larger, and in the mountains—when you can’t see snow—it can rain.

Gusty winds will pick up overnight as a wind warning goes into effect on the coast. The wind is expected to increase to 20-30 m/s, in some places gusts up to 50 m/s. It expires on Wednesday at 18:00. In deserts, winds between 25 and 45 mph triggered a high wind warning from Tuesday 2 pm to Wednesday 10 pm. Some wind gusts can reach 75 mph, according to the NWS.

The rest of the 10-day forecast looks clear, but inland communities are facing low temperatures and could get frost early Thursday.

“When temperatures are near freezing, get pets inside,” Parveen said. “Make sure you don’t leave any plants outside unless you want to damage or cover them.”
