Volunteers were supposed to stand up for the needs of local children in foster families

Founded in 1980, Voices for Children, a nonprofit organization in San Diego, is looking for volunteers to protect needy adopted children. The non-profit organization has just launched a new campaign called “Your Voice, Their Future” to encourage members of the community to become court-appointed special advocates, also known as CASA.

The nonprofit trains and supports volunteers to advocate for foster children in court, school, and health care to make sure their needs are met.

CASA volunteers are often the most consistent and caring adults in a foster child’s life as they face court hearings, social workers, lawyers and, in many cases, new homes.

The first “Your Voice, Their Future” volunteer recruitment campaign will run until May 1 (National Foster Care Awareness Month) to recruit court-appointed special advocates to serve 100 local youth in foster care on the “Voice of Voices” waiting list. for children” who urgently need help. CASA volunteer. The non-profit organization is currently in dire need of court-appointed special male attorneys and volunteers from various communities.

Last year, CASA volunteers and Voices for Children staff served over 3,400 foster children in San Diego and Riverside counties.

According to Voices for Children, about 3,500 children are expected to be placed in foster care in the San Diego area this year after being abused or neglected and need someone to step in and speak up for them in it can be a scary time.

“The secret to CASA’s success is simply to be present and listen. And as soon as young people realize that you are a volunteer and you are not paid for this work, the light goes out for them. They’ve been let down by adults in their lives, and when they realize I’m in it for the long haul, that’s when a real connection happens,” longtime volunteer Tim Riley told the Union-Tribune last fall.
