‘Violent’: Camera shows Jersey Village cop threatening to kill man during traffic stop

The video from the camera shows how a policeman threatens a man during a stop. But police say there is another video that shows more of the story.

JERSEY VILLAGE, Texas. Community activists are demanding that the Jersey Village police officer be immediately fired and face criminal charges after a traffic stop that quickly went awry.

Patrick Royal was pulled over for a broken taillight a few days before Christmas during his lunch break.

Royal gave the officer his driver’s license, but stated that his taillight was not broken and turned on the horn to show them that it was working. He said he needed to get back to work and asked to speak to a manager.

The officer then ordered Royal to get out of the car, “otherwise you’ll get pepper spray.”

Royal came out with his hands up, but that’s when the situation skyrocketed from 0 to 100.

Royal said that one of the officers put a gun to his head, and on camera footage, the officer can be heard saying, “I’m going to kill you, you stupid motherfuck.”

“I didn’t do anything to him. It’s just some kind of mess that keeps playing in my head: “I’m going to kill you,” Royal said Wednesday during a press conference with Houston activists.

The officer then pushed Royal to the ground and handcuffed him, then placed him in the back seat of a patrol car while they searched his vehicle.

Quanell X called the officer “happy” and called his behavior “disgusting”.

“His behavior was so reckless, we thank God that this young man is still alive,” the activist said. he didn’t stop.”

Quanell said officers held Royal for 45 minutes, “destroyed” his car and threw his groceries on the ground before fined him and released him.

Quanell believes the officer should be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and violation of civil rights.

“Not once did this young man obey, not once did this young man use aggressive language,” Quanell said. “They automatically think we are a threat and they have to use that kind of behavior and that kind of power to deal with us.”

We contacted the Jersey Village police and they said the video posted did not tell the whole story. They said Royal dropped his cell phone as he got out of the car, and as he reached for it, his sudden movement “frightened the officer.”

“You understand how this can be misinterpreted,” the officer told Royal through the video camera.

The JVPD later said it had launched an investigation and released the following statement.

“Prior to media reporting, the Jersey Village Police Department had not received any complaints regarding this traffic stop. As with any complaint, we have begun an investigation into the allegations contained in the complaint. We want to assure the public that our goal is always to ensure that every contact with the staff of this department is positive and satisfactory. If this does not happen, we take these incidents seriously and consider them objectively. If it is determined that there are any policy violations, they will be referred to our internal affairs department for a full investigation.
We are aware that only a 30-second video of the traffic stop in question was published in the media today. It doesn’t give your viewers a full account of what happened during that stop, nor does it depict the actions of the driver pulling away from the cop and trying to get to the car. This was captured on video from a car DVR.

Quanell said that Royal’s taillights were working, so the officer gave him a ticket for tinting the windows. He said the traffic court judge later dismissed the fine.
