Vandal breaks Staten Island synagogue fence, NYPD investigates hate crime

A vandal broke through the fence of a Staten Island synagogue while two of his accomplices sat in an SUV watching what the NYPD was investigating as a hate crime.

The crew broke through the fence near the Toras Emes Congregation synagogue of the Staten Island synagogue in Oakwood around 00:30 am Saturday, as seen in a security camera photo released by the NYPD.

A large blue sign on the wall of a building on Hylan Boulevard. on Montreal Avenue makes it clear that this is a synagogue.

Police say the vandal climbed out of the back seat of a white Honda SUV and ran over a PVC fence, damaging it in the process.

The brigade broke through the fence near the synagogue of the Toras Emes Congregation in Staten Island on Hylan Boulevard.  along Montreal Avenue in Oakwood around 00:30 Saturday, police said.

According to police, he got back into the SUV and the driver drove north on Hylan Boulevard.

CCTV footage released by police shows the skinny vandal wearing a yellow hoodie and black pants. The driver of the SUV was wearing a red shirt, and the passenger in the front seat was wearing a white one.

The police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the men and looking for them. The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force is investigating.
