Van driver dies after falling tree in San Mateo County

Strong winds knocked down trees in the bay area on Tuesday. One of the fallen trees claimed a life near the Portola Valley.

A tree fell on a running car on Alpine Road in San Mateo County off Highway 280 and killed the driver. CHP received a report of a tree hitting the van around 13:34.

Crews who arrived at the scene found a fallen eucalyptus on the roof of a white plumbing van, destroying its roof. The fire department was trying to get the driver out of the van when another tree fell, hitting another vehicle behind the van.

There was no one in the second car, and none of the firefighters were injured as a result of the fall of the second tree.

They were able to locate the driver of the white van at 1:55 pm and found that the man had died as a result of being hit by a tree.

As a result of the incident, both directions along the Alpine Road were closed. As soon as the coroner finds the body, work will begin to remove the fallen trees.
