SAN JOSE, CA (KGO) — According to San Jose police, two passengers died early Friday morning when a minor crashed a stolen car into a lamp post.

The SJPD says the vehicle caught fire immediately following a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 4:20 a.m. in the area of ​​Cottle Road and Blossom Hill.

One of the passengers, a man, died at the scene, while the woman was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

The underage driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was arrested on two counts of manslaughter of a vehicle and driving a stolen vehicle.

He was placed in the Santa Clara County juvenile hall.

Police say the car hit a lamp post near the entrance to Blossom Hill Road while driving north on Cottle Road.

The 2018 Hyundai Sedan was first stolen on Thursday.

This is the first fatal collision in San Jose and the first two fatal crashes in 2023.

The names of the victims will be released after the Santa Clara County Coroner notifies the families.
