Two men shoot up Bronx playground steps over botched drug deal

According to police, on Wednesday, two men were shot a stone’s throw from a playground on a Bronx street.

The victims were on Nelson Avenue near W. 165th Street and Nelson’s Playground in Highbridge, where police sources said they were involved in a drug deal.

The deal went awry and gunfire broke out around 4:55 p.m., police and sources said.

Franklin Lugo Medina was parked nearby when bullets hit his Honda Pilot.

“There were three of them, and one of them was shooting,” he recalled. “He shot at some guys and shot up my car. My heart was beating fast.”

“When the shooting started, I immediately jumped out of the car,” Medina added.

A 21-year-old man was shot in the right arm and a 33-year-old man in the stomach.

They were both taken to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition.

Police are looking for three men who fled in a Ford Explorer, sources said.

There were no immediate arrests.
