Trump expected to be arrested Tuesday as district attorney reviews charges

Donald Trump said in a social media post that he expects to be arrested on Tuesday as the New York Attorney looking at accusations in a case involving an investigation into silence money paid to women who reported sexual contact with a former president.

Trump said in a Pravda social media post early Saturday morning that “illegal leaks” from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office indicate that “REMOTE LEADING CANDIDATE OF THE REPUBLIC AND FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WILL BE ARRESTED TUESDAY NEXT WEEK.”

Trump’s lawyer Susan Necheles explained in a CBS News report on Saturday that these are the former president’s speculations.

“As President Trump claims, his message is based on media reports. Because this is a political persecution, the District Attorney’s office is leaking information to the press rather than talking to President Trump’s lawyers as they would normally do.”

Trump did not provide any details on social media about how he learned of the pending arrest. In his posts, he repeated allegations that the 2020 presidential election, which he lost to Democrat Joe Biden, was stolen, and urged his followers to “PROTEST, RETURN OUR NATION!”

New York law enforcement officials are bracing for Trump being charged.

No timeline has been publicly announced for the secret grand jury work on the case, including any potential vote on whether to indict the ex-president.

Manhattan prosecutors are investigating Trump’s alleged $130,000 “hush money” payment to an adult film star. Stormy Daniels in 2016 recently invited the former president testifies in an investigation, a step that usually precedes an indictment in New York.

Trump says he did nothing wrong and called the investigation a “witch hunt” by a Democratic prosecutor seeking to sabotage the Republican’s 2024 presidential campaign.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office is apparently looking into whether any state laws were violated in connection with the payouts or how the Trump company compensated former lawyer Michael Cohen for his work in hushing up the women’s allegations.
