Truck stolen from Garland business owner who opened earthquake donation warehouse

The owner of the Garland business said he was “disappointed” after someone stole his truck from the parking lot of his warehouse.

Ash Selvi is an e-retailer and has volunteered his large space to help the Turkish American Association of North Texas raise donations.

“We used a donation truck because not everyone can bring donations here,” said Selvi, whose business is located on Shilo Road. “It was important. I mean, yesterday, for example, we were unable to assemble the tents. A couple of people will be sleeping outside because of these two guys.”

Surveillance video from outside the warehouse from about 5 am on Valentine’s Day shows a two-door truck pulling into the parking lot and pulling out into a vacant lot.

Selvey’s truck, a brown 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 with black door stripes, was parked between two U-Haul trucks that were used to transport donations. After volunteering for more than 15 hours, Selvi said he drove home with his wife that evening and had left his truck at work in the past.

In the video, someone exits from the passenger side of a truck parked in front of Selvi’s store. Seconds later, this man turns on the lights in Selvey’s truck.

“The truck was locked and I had the only key. I don’t know, I think they are some kind of professionals,” said Selvi. “It just took them 60 seconds to get into the truck and start it up.”

The suspects leave in both the truck they arrived in and Selvy’s truck.

He has since filed a police report and does not believe the insurance will cover the theft. What upsets him the most is that it has hampered relief efforts for people who have returned to his native Turkey.

“We need a truck here today to pick up items, that’s what we need right now, I don’t care about money yet, just something later, but right now we just need to pick up items and supplies and get them ready for the turkey,” Selvi said. .
