Tonight’s draw: $1.35 billion Mega Millions jackpot is the second largest in the game

DES MOINES, Iowa. Friday the 13th can be someone’s lucky day. The Mega Millions jackpot reached an estimated $1.35 billion – the second largest in lottery history – in the draw that takes place on Friday.

The jackpot rose from $1.1 billion after a Tuesday night draw with no winner winning the big prize, the lottery said on Wednesday.

The estimated jackpot ($707.9 million in cash) surpasses only the lottery record of $1.537 billion won in South Carolina in 2018, the lottery said in a statement.

“The $1.35 billion Mega Millions jackpot is now on the rise and is making history as the second largest Mega Millions jackpot ever,” the lottery said in a statement. “Our members’ lotteries raise funds for many good causes, from education to conservation programs. We are proud to support these efforts.”

The massive Mega Millions jackpot has crossed the $1 billion mark after nearly three months of no winning tickets.

According to Mega Millions, the last $502 million jackpot was won on October 14, when there were two winning tickets from California and Florida. More than 33 million winning tickets have been sold since then, including 68 players who have taken home $1 million or more, the lottery added.

The press release states that there were six jackpots won on Friday the 13th, and four of them were in Michigan. Another Friday, the 13th prizes were drawn in New York, Ohio and Rhode Island.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states, as well as the District of Columbia and the US Virgin Islands.
