The average gas price in San Diego County rose to a record high in a day since October 1.

The average price of a gallon of regular self-service gasoline in San Diego County recorded the biggest increase since Friday, Oct. 1, up 3.1 cents to $4.768, the highest since Dec. 6.

The average price has risen for 10 consecutive days and 15 of the last 17, up 18.6 cents, including 2.5 cents on Thursday, according to data from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. This is 9.6 cents more than a week ago, 22.6 cents more than a month ago and 3.2 cents more than a year ago.

The median price has dropped $1,667 since rising to a record $6,435 on Oct. 5.

“The Oil Price Information Service reports that the Phillips 66 Los Angeles refinery site in Wilmington reported unscheduled flaring last week and several other West Coast refineries experienced problems, while the California Energy Commission reported about a significant decline in gasoline stocks last week,” said Doug Shoop. , corporate communications manager for the Automobile Club of Southern California.

“At the same time last year in Southern California, gas prices were breaking records almost every day due to inflation and rising oil prices in the run-up to the Russian-Ukrainian war. Unfortunately, today’s average prices are very similar to last year’s at this time because Southern California average gas prices remained well above $4 a gallon even at the lowest point in 2022.”

The national average fell one-tenth of a cent to $3.421 after a four-tenths consecutive rise that followed a 17-day streak of declines totaling 9.6 cents. The average price is 1 cent less than a week ago and 10.1 cents less than a year ago, but 9.4 cents more than a month ago.

The national average has fallen $1,595 since rising to a record $5,016 on June 14.
