The average gas price in San Diego County hit its highest level since Dec. 12.

The average price of a gallon of regular self-service gasoline in San Diego County rose one-tenth of a cent on Friday to $4.584, the highest since Dec. 12.

The average price rose for seven consecutive days, up 4.7 cents, including 1.2 cents on Thursday and 1.8 cents on Wednesday, the biggest gains since Dec. 31, according to data from the AAA and the Price Information Service for oil. This is 12.5 cents more than a month ago, but 3.5 cents less than a year ago.

The average price has dropped $1,851 since rising to a record $6,435 on October 5th.

“Southern California’s transition to summer gasoline production, annual maintenance to refineries that could impact fuel supply, rising oil prices worldwide, and increased gas demand in the spring are reasons why prices are likely to rise in the coming weeks,” said Doug Shoup, head of the company. Corporate communications manager for the Automobile Club of Southern California.

The national average rose for the 16th straight day after a five-day streak of decline, up seven tenths of a cent to $3.509. It is up 24.2 cents over the past 16 days, including 2.1 cents on Thursday, after falling 2.3 cents in a five-day streak of losses.

The national average is 11.7 cents more than a week ago, 40.5 cents more than a month ago, and 16.1 cents more than a year ago. It has fallen $1.507 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14.
