That’s why Reclaim Our Power calls on PG&E regulators and Gov. Gavin Newsom to be more accountable

SAN RAMON, CA (KGO) — A group called Reclaim Our Power held a protest outside of PG.&E San Ramon Convention Center on Tuesday morning, at the same time inside, the utility company was hosting a wildfire mitigation conference with regulators from Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office.

Reclaim Our Power reports that the Governor’s Office of Energy Infrastructure Security spoke at PG.An &E-sponsored conference and they say this office is responsible for overseeing the utility company that caused some of the biggest wildfires in our state.

The group is asking these regulators to stop handing over the utility’s deadly and costly plans.

The Take Back Our Power group is also calling on Gov. Newsom to hold a PG.&E are responsible for fires, blackouts and rate increases, saying they can’t afford it.

“We’re here to counter this because PG&E is actually the cause of these fires and they have not been held accountable,” said Nya Tisdell, energy democracy organizer Reclaim Our Power.

“We’re here to say that they should have their license taken away and that we shouldn’t go forward with their plans, which obviously didn’t work because there were so many lives lost, there was so much destruction.”

Taxpayers here have also been protesting recent power outages and skyrocketing bills.

They say after every major wildfire PG&E is responsible for their rates ending up going up and saying they don’t have to pay the bills.

“No governor in California history has done more to keep PG.”&E are accountable and will force the company to make fundamental changes,” said Daniel Villaseñor, Newsom’s deputy spokesman.
