Sutter fills 100% of residence seats in record year of play

Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health has filled all of the residency vacancies, which the organization says is a record for the coming year.

The healthcare system will admit 86 doctors to residency programs and noted in a March 17 press release that its graduate medical education programs are well positioned to expand further across the system.

The healthcare system is reported to currently employ 200 resident physicians in 16 accredited programs at six locations. It eventually hopes to train more than 400 resident doctors each year.

Across the spectrum of healthcare specialties, Sutter says 43 percent of residents trained in his programs are subsequently hired into Sutter Health-related practices.

“Expanding the ranks of physicians is more important than ever,” said Warner Thomas, President and CEO of Sutter Health. “Graduate medical education programs like ours are helping to expand the roster of highly trained, high-level physicians from all walks of life to meet the growing and diverse healthcare needs in California and the nation.”
