Storm causes San Diego tree crews to jump

Donnie Starkins lives in the Solana Beach area where a tree recently fell. He noticed this while walking his two dogs.

“When I went out there that day to see the tree, it wrecked the car, so there was a car under it,” Starkins said. — The rear wheels of the car were raised, and fortunately I don’t think anyone was hurt.

The city of San Diego said it had received a total of 22 notifications to its Get it Done app for tree damage since Tuesday afternoon. At least two of them fell on cars, officials said.

“I’m from Northern Australia so I’m pretty used to the rain,” said Ben Stewart-Steel. My wife is from Scotland. She’s very used to the rain, so it’s kind of nice.”

Stuart-Steele also lives in Solana Beach. He said he was grateful no one was hurt when the tree fell.

“Actually, my wife was walking with my baby shortly before on the way down, and then a tree fell on the way back,” Stuart-Steel said.

The tree pruning crew spent the entire morning clearing the area.

“With all this water and all this moisture, more trees could fall,” Starkins said.

The city of San Diego said it was not aware of injuries from the recently felled tree, but they expect to respond to additional calls about fallen trees.
