Spring de Haviland launches its “Spring in Kindness” campaign on the first day of spring

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING: Retired military veteran Spring de Haviland kicked off the first day of spring on March 20, 2023 with their 12th annual Spring for Kindness campaign! Her mission? Spread kindness and promote positivity in the Santa Monica community.

All day long, Spring handed out bright and beautiful carnations to people passing by on the Santa Monica Pier, marking the arrival of the season. In addition, she promoted her Kindness poster and book, allowing people to leave messages for military patients at the Virginia State Medical Center in Brentwood.

But Vesna’s kindness didn’t stop there. A group of Santa Monica police officers stopped by to show their support, and Spring gave them flowers as a token of appreciation for their service to the community.

Spring’s dedication to promoting kindness goes far beyond her annual campaign. She frequents the Virginia State Medical Center, bringing along soft toys, jewelry, and lots of fun and humor for the veterans. For Vesna, hanging out with veterans is a win-win situation that boosts endorphins and serotonin levels for everyone involved. Her mission is to serve the morale and well-being of her unit, even after her retirement after 30 years of military service.

Spring’s tireless efforts have been recognized with numerous awards and accolades. Among other awards, she received the “Heroes Award” from the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce. Her dedication to promoting kindness and improving people’s lives is truly inspiring.

As we welcome the first day of spring, let’s follow the example of Spring de Haviland and make a conscious effort to spread kindness to each other. Small gestures, like handing a beautiful carnation to a passerby or leaving a thank you note to veterans, can make a huge difference in someone’s day. We should all strive to make every day a little brighter for those around us.

The day’s events included a close-up of the annual Spring Kindness Paw it Forward to Santa Monica’s Fabian Lewkowicz in the spring. The award is given to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the promotion of kindness in their community.
