Speed recruiting and bidding battles: the latest tactic in the war for talent

According to a recent survey by job search engine ZipRecruiter, quick response times and pay increases help attract talent in the current hiring market.

In the fourth quarter of 2022, ZipRecruiter surveyed 2,550 US residents hired for new jobs in the past six months. Here’s what they had to say about their job search experience:

  • More than half received a response from their current employer within three days of applying for a job, and 9 out of 10 received a response within one week.
  • More than 62% received a salary increase after changing jobs; for two-thirds of these respondents, the increase was 11 percent or more.
  • Nearly a quarter said their previous employer asked them to stay and turned down their new offer. The same number received a bonus for registration.
  • Sixty-three percent of health care respondents remained in the same industry when they moved to a new job. Healthcare ranked second behind technology, about 12% higher than the industry average.
  • Nearly 38% of newly hired employees said they had discussed their new offer.
  • Thirty-nine percent have a hybrid work schedule, and almost 18 percent work remotely all the time—less privileged at their previous jobs.
