Sheriff: Woman shot, killed in suspected domestic violence incident in NW Harris County

Sheriff Gonzalez said the woman, who is in her 20s, was visiting an apartment complex when she was shot and killed by a man.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A woman was shot and killed Friday in what the Harris County deputies are calling a possible domestic violence incident.

This happened at an apartment complex on Point Park Drive, which is just west of Highway 6 in northwest Houston.

Deputies said the 28-year-old suspect forced himself inside an apartment that his ex-girlfriend was in and shot her once.

The 22-year-old victim, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect got away after the shooting and went to another apartment complex on the 21900 block of Clay Road. Deputies and a SWAT team went to the apartment complex, hoping to make contact with the suspect, but later learned he was not there.

The suspect was eventually found in east Harris County where he was taken into custody by Precinct 8 deputies. Officials said they also found what they believe was the gun used in the shooting.

HCSO Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland said domestic violence crimes are trending upward and the agency has been working on preventative tactics.

“We’ve had an influx of a lot of domestic-related this year. A tremendous amount this year,” Gilliland said. “You know it’s a sad situation, especially here in the holiday time. Anytime this happens it’s a sad situation.”

It’s unknown how long the victim and suspect were dating, but deputies said they have not been together for some time.
