Second suspect charged in Iowa school shooting

Two teenagers have been charged with the murder of two other teenagers at a school in Des Moines, Iowa.

Bravon Michael Tukes, 19, and Preston Walls, 18, were arrested in connection with their deaths during the Starts Right Here educational program.

Walls is accused of breaking into the common area at the Starts Right Here facility on Monday and then firing multiple shots, fatally wounding 18-year-old Jionny Dameron and 16-year-old Rashad Carr.

Tux was driving a getaway car, police said, which police stopped about two miles from the scene of the shooting.

Authorities said Dameron and Carr were members of the gang, but family and friends disputed these claims. The Des Moines Police Department said the shooting was linked to the suspects’ alleged gang affiliation.

Tewkes and Walls were charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder and gang involvement.

Will Kips, the gang member-turned-activist who founded Starts Right Here, was also injured in the shootout. After the shooting, he was hospitalized in serious condition.

When the getaway car stopped, Walls ran out of the car, although he was captured and arrested soon after, police said. Meanwhile, Tux had sped off in a car, but only managed to elude the police a few days before he too was arrested.
