San Francisco 49ers players clear lockers after 2022 season as they think about the future

SANTA CLARA, CA (KGO) — It’s an NFL tradition that hurts 31 out of 32 teams every year – locker cleaning day. The San Francisco 49ers officially closed the 2022 season on Tuesday and turned their attention to the future. Some of the guys in the dressing room were in a good mood, but you could tell that the pain of the last elimination from the NFC Championship weighed heavily on their minds.

What lies ahead for the 49ers is unclear, but the QB battle appears to be on again, with upstart Mr. Not-So-Misplaced, Brock Purdy, looking to build on his near-perfect rookie season and retain the QB’s starting spot over the much-touted draft pick, Trey Lance. Lance and Purdy will focus on injury rehab in the offseason before looking to help their team win it all in 2023.

“Everything will be fine and I’m excited about the journey ahead, the road and all that lies ahead,” Purdy said. “I’m just going to put my head down and work as hard as I can, knowing that God has a plan for all of this.”

“I’m excited to go out and show what I can do,” Lance said. “The same situation as the last two years, and in fact my whole life. Nothing really has changed.”

We won’t know the true answers to these questions and more until we meet the ball again next season. It simply means fans and pundits will have plenty to talk about while the off-season officially begins.
