San Diego convention unites energy leaders to secure the future

Some of the world’s energy and utility leaders are in San Diego this week for the annual Distributech International conference, which brings utilities, urban planners and technology providers under one roof.

This year poses new challenges for many speakers and visitors that need to be addressed in the near future.

“This technology is constantly evolving,” said Asaf Nagler of ABB E-mobility. “We are still at the beginning of the transformation.”

Companies and governments are turning to sustainable, reliable and clean green energy.

“The power grid is changing dramatically,” added Mary Brown of Open Access Technology International.

Much of this change can be seen on driveways in California, where EV sales are skyrocketing. By 2035, they will be in place in California.

“The utility is trying to answer the question, ‘How can I meet the need to charge all of these vehicles with the current power that we have on the grid?'” explained Brown, whose OATI works with utilities to effectively manage all of their resources. .

“The requirements for the systems we currently have have to change,” Brown said. “When you turn on the switch, you expect the light to turn on, and that takes a long time.”

It will take much longer to cope with all the new electric vehicles.

“Electric vehicles are the future,” Nagler said. “This is what we are all striving for and working towards.”

Nagler said ABB E-mobility had just sold its millionth electric vehicle charger.

“These chargers will be everywhere you go,” Nagler continued. “You will see that these things will look less like industrial equipment and more like what you want to have in your home.”

Nagler said everyone under Distributech’s roof is working towards smarter and more sustainable goals.

“We’re all working on the same thing together, and we’re all really moving in the same direction,” Nagler said.

“They understand where we have been, where we are now and where we are going,” Brown concluded.

Distributech is at the San Diego Convention Center until Thursday.
