SAN ANGELO, Texas — A 36-year-old San Angelo man was charged with evading arrest after escaping from police and attempting to set himself on fire on March 14.

According to the San Angelo Police Department, officers were investigating a riot at The El Patio, 1901 West Beauregard Ave.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they found Delfino Hill, who then began to flee on foot.

Eventually, Hill was found near the 1300 block of Hill Street, doused in gasoline, with a canister and a lighter in hand.

After threatening self-harm, the SAPD acted quickly to defuse the situation by firing a shotgun into Hill’s chest while also dousing him with a fire extinguisher.

Hill was then apprehended and taken into custody, where he received medical treatment for any injuries.

He was registered on March 15 with the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office and there is currently no bail available.
