Rising Star superintendent resigns after campus gun incident

RISING STAR, Texas. Rising Star Superintendent Robbie Stuteville resigned following an incident earlier this January in which a student found a firearm left by Stuteville in the school bathroom.

The incident was not made public to parents until last week.

Stewville said he left the firearm in the bathroom for about 10 minutes and that two third graders found him and reported it to the office.

The district allows two teachers to be armed on the premises.

Stewville praised the two students who reported the weapons to the office.

The Rising Star ISD Board of Trustees will hold a meeting on Thursday at 4:30 pm to discuss the resignation and, in the meantime, who will be appointed to the role of Acting Superintendent.

We will have more details as this story develops.
