Renovation of the facade of the hotel US Grant!

The world-famous US Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego is getting a facelift!

Today I spotted a few scaffolding workers as I walked down Broadway.

The hotel opened in 1910 – more than a century ago. The president’s son, Ulysses S. Grant, oversaw the construction of the Grant Hotel, designed by architect Harrison Albright. Past guests have included Albert Einstein, Charles Lindbergh and twelve Presidents of the United States!

Did you know that San Diego Comic-Con held its first convention at the US .Grant Hotel back in 1970? At the time, the nascent convention was called San Diego Comic-Con in the Golden State.

Here is a page on the hotel’s website that tells the history, including the period when the elegant building became, unfortunately, neglected.

After the current renovation, the hotel should look just great!
