President Joe Biden calls the attack on Paul Pelosi “heinous” and says there is no place for political violence in the US during the State of the Union.

SAN FRANCISCO (CGO) — President Joe Biden delivered a state-of-the-art statement to the joint Congress on Tuesday evening, where he condemned the attack on Paul Pelosi, who was in attendance.

Biden called the attack on former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband “heinous” during his speech, saying it should never have happened.

“Just a few months ago, upset by the Big Lie, an assailant unleashed political violence at the home of the then Speaker of this House of Representatives,” Biden said. “Using the same language that the rebels roaming these halls chanted on January 6th.”

The president acknowledged Pelosi’s presence in Congress, saying he was scarred from the brutal attack. He went on to call Pelosi tough, strong, and resilient.

After the attack, Paul Pelosi underwent surgery “to repair a fractured skull and serious injuries to his right arm and hands,” spokesman Nancy Pelosi said in a statement.

Biden went on to stress the importance of protecting the right to vote and upholding the rule of law in the aftermath of this political violence.

“We are honoring the results of our elections, not undermining the will of the people. (We must) restore confidence in our democratic institutions. We must not give any form of hate and extremism a safe haven,” Biden said.
