Police say boy in stolen car dies in shootout after owner used app to track her

Denver police said a 12-year-old boy in a stolen car was killed in a shootout after the owner of the car used an app to track his car.

The owner on Sunday told authorities that his car was taken from the 8300 block of East Northfield Boulevard, according to a police department press release.

Using the app, he learned that the car was located in the area of ​​West 12th Avenue and North Decatur Street, which is almost 10 miles from the address where he said the car was stolen.

Approaching the car, the owner “was involved in a shootout with the passenger(s) in the stolen car,” police said, without specifying how many people were in the car.

According to police, the boy drove his car to the 2900 block of West 10th Avenue, and the police found him with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Denver Medical Examiner’s Bureau identified the boy as Elias Armstrong. An autopsy showed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound. The way of death is murder.

The others in the stolen vehicle disappeared before police arrived and were never found, the report said.

According to police, the owner of the car has not been arrested at the moment.
