Plano woman ‘stuck’ in Mexico returns home

The months-long multinational fiasco for the Plano woman is finally over.

Pamela Hoyt traveled to Mexico last year thinking it would be a short trip. She ended up stuck there. On Friday evening, she finally returned home.

“Honestly, I’m just in shock,” said Pamela’s husband William Hoyt. “Very happy that everything is coming to an end and we can be together.”

Their journey began in September when a pregnant Pamela traveled to Mexico to get her green card. She thought the trip would take a week until it did.

“I miss home. I miss my husband,” she told NBC 5 in November.

Pamela was 2 years old when she moved to Texas from Mexico.

She became a DACA recipient but extended the extension by two months when she went to Mexico to apply for a green card.

She says her lawyer assured her that it was safe to go there, but during an interview at the consulate, she learned that she could not return to the US legally and that it would take about two years for her to complete the paperwork she needed.

“Honestly, it was terrible,” Pamela said.

She gave birth to their son Judas in Mexico and cared for him there while her family in Plano fought for her return home.

“I prayed to God all the time because I don’t think I would have survived,” Pamela said.

Then, last week, her humanitarian parole application was approved.

“Whenever I saw it, I just couldn’t believe it, just thank God, you know,” William said.

A week after receiving the news, friends and family welcomed Pamela and the Hoyts’ newborn home to DFW Airport on Friday night, a reunion that lasted months.

“I can’t wait to sleep in my bed and cook dinner for them and just spend time together as a family,” Pamela said.
