Pink Tie Guys Fundraising Campaign Unites Texans

A Texas-wide effort to fight breast cancer has kicked off and is rolling out across the Lone Star State.

The Pink Tie Guys 2023 campaign kicked off Wednesday night.

For 48 hours ending Friday noon, Pink Tie Guys in six cities will raise funds for Susan G. Komen to ensure women and men in Texas have access to essential breast health services and groundbreaking breast cancer research.

Teen Gabe Starling is one of the guys with the pink tie. He supported Komen from the age of seven, when he learned that a friend of his mother had been diagnosed with cancer. Starling wanted to help and soon created her own non-profit organization, Tough Guys Fight Back.

“We are just playing the game of fighting cancer. We just keep playing the game of life. So let’s play this game,” Starling, 14, said.

The fundraiser began in 2020 as a competition between the Pink Tie Guys in Fort Worth and Dallas, but now Austin, Houston, San Antonio and Tyler have joined in to raise even more breast cancer funds.

The statewide fundraising goal is $150,000.

Susan G. Komen will help raise funds for the Pink Tie Guys campaign:

  • Provide direct support to patients through the Komen Helpline (1-877 GO KOMEN), a resource for support and counseling for anyone with questions, and the Treatment Assistance Fund, a program for qualified breast cancer patients, to help with money.
  • Fund innovative breakthrough research that uses technology and big data to accelerate drug discovery and save lives.
  • Invest in advocacy efforts that leverage the power of our grassroots supporters to secure a broad range of patient rights for life-saving breast cancer treatments and continued investment in research.
