What is your position and what do you/your company do in the cannabis space?

I’m the founder and CEO of Poplar – Your Modern Drug Store.

How long have you worked in the cannabis space?

I began working full-time on Poplar in the Spring of 2018; the e-commerce shopping site launched in November of that year.

What did you do before you were involved in the cannabis industry?

I spent most of my career in fashion and retail. I worked in-house at a variety of brands including Kate Spade, Pamela Love, Alexis Bittar, Norma Kamali, and STATE Bags. I wore many hats (a good prep for cannabis) but most of my work was focused on strategy and growth that positively increased the bottom line without sacrificing brand cache and product quality.

What led you to the cannabis industry?

In 2017, I personally added cannabis to my health and wellness routine and decreased my dependency on pharmaceutical anti-anxiety medication. But I found it very difficult to find a trusted resource that provided easy to understand content and sold products that fit my lifestyle. So I built one. In 2018, I launched Poplar – the first multi-brand e-commerce marketplace selling a curated assortment of hemp-derived CBD products.

Do you have any advice for someone looking to get into the NY weed industry?

Give yourself twice as much time as you think you need to accomplish your goals.

I entered the industry in 2018 with a phased approach:

1. Start a CBD business now and begin immediately to advocate for cannabis as a health and wellness tool as a way to influence policy and trends.

2. Once cannabis is legal in NY, pivot and apply for a New York cannabis dispensary and delivery license and create a best-in-class cannabis omni-channel retail experience.

Needless to say, it has taken much longer than I anticipated.

What do you think the NY cannabis ecosystem will look like in five years?

It will be a bumpy road. But in five years a lot will change! NY will be a leader in all stages of the supply chain and patients and customers will be able to purchase and consume top-quality cannabis.

Do you use cannabis? If so, what’s your favorite method (flower, dabs, edibles, tinctures, etc.), and why?

I go through different phases but I am currently loving edibles and pre-rolls. They each serve their own unique purpose. Edibles are perfectly discreet. Pre-rolls are a great way to mindfully consume with friends.

Who should contact you, and what’s the best method (i.e. email, phone number, LinkedIn handle, etc.)
