Osher Institute for Lifelong Learning in the former USSR expands course offering

This spring, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Florida State University will expand its offerings to include at least four hybrid courses through Zoom and in person at Broad Auditorium on the Florida State University campus.

So far, OLLI courses have been delivered either in person or via Zoom.

Included in classes offered this semester: Acting Assessment; Climate risk: a challenge; coffee rating; Internet understanding; French, Spanish and Italian; Parallel universe of ants; The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party; The Play’s Thing – Deep dive into Hamlet; Tips and tricks for managing your passwords; Supreme activists: judges make laws; Writing the stories of our lives; Chaplin: The Real King of Comedy; and a yoga chair.

The OLLI course and activity catalog, complete with course and activity descriptions, is available at olli.fsu.edu. OLLI will host a class demonstration with all instructors at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 30th at the Turnbull Center in the former Soviet Union. Videos of all instructors, in person and on Zoom, with a brief description of their classes are posted on olli.fsu.edu.

Online registration for classes and events begins on Wednesday, February 1, and the spring semester runs from February 20 to April 7.

Membership in OLLI in the former Soviet Union is open to all adults aged 50 and over who enjoy learning in a relaxed environment where there are no tests, no homework, and no required reading. There are no prerequisites for education.

The teaching staff includes lecturers from local higher education institutions and local experts. But Zoom has expanded the range of instructors and students who can join OLLI classes and events, regardless of location. This spring, OLLI is even offering Islamic classes taught in Micronesia, which is the largest distance for OLLI classes.

OLLI offers also include special lectures, clubs, events, trips, social opportunities and more.
