One high school student shared a warning for teens about drug use

Former high school student R.L. Turner said her attempts to fit in led her to use drugs.

“I had a lot of friends who took a lot of drugs, and I just started trying them,” said a student who wished to remain anonymous.

Now she is homeschooled. Her parents pulled her out of school and put her in rehab after she had a bad reaction to a blue pill that was thought to contain fentanyl.

“It looks like you are going to die,” said the student.

“It’s appalling to hear that kids are now using fentanyl,” said Stacey Burns, chief clinical director of the Nexus Recovery Center.

The number of cases of fentanyl has increased in the women’s treatment facility for drug addicts and alcoholics.

Burns said what is most needed is fellowship and education for the youth.

“Teaching what really exists,” Burns said. “What people should be aware of in terms of drugs that fentanyl cuts and the risk of overdose.”

These risks are manifested in the ISD Carrollton-Farmers Branch. Three young people have died and six more have been hospitalized as a result of a string of fentanyl overdoses, most of them since December.

Burns advised parents to be very careful about their children.

“You have to be aware of where your kids, teenagers are,” Burns said. Who are their friends. Obviously any change in mood or interest in school, or interest or lack of interest in sports or whatever they have always done. .”

As for one student who had her own intimacy, she gives this warning.

“It’s better to abstain from drugs and find better people,” the student said.
