Officers find family of 3 dead after coming to welfare check apartment, Texas cops say
A married couple and their child were found fatally shot in a Texas apartment after cops came to the house to conduct a welfare check, police said.
According to San Antonio police spokeswoman Jennifer Rodriguez, the police were sent to the San Antonio apartment on Monday, March 20, when a relative became worried that they had not heard from the victim since Saturday.
Rodriguez said the police had to force their way into the apartment. When they got inside, they found the bodies of a man, a woman and a child, police said.
The man, in his early 40s, is believed to have shot his wife and their child before turning the gun on himself, Rodriguez said at a briefing broadcast by KENS. According to her, the woman was about 30 years old, and the child was less than 10 years old.
It is not known what day the murder took place. Police have not identified family members.
According to Rodriguez, the relative who called the welfare check was outside the apartment when police discovered it.
Police did not say what type of weapon was used in the shooting, only saying that “some type of firearm” was found at the scene.
