NYPD releases photos of Bronx man’s backyard murder suspect linked to marijuana sale
The NYPD released surveillance footage of a suspect in the murder of a Bronx resident in his front yard.
The suspect was caught on camera exiting the back of a blue sedan ahead of the Pratt Avenue shooting near Strang Avenue in Edenwald on January 18. Police are asking the public for help in identifying and searching for him.
The shooting, according to investigators, may be related to the sale of marijuana.
According to a police source, a large bag of marijuana was found next to the murdered Nicholas Lewis.
Lewis, 21, was in the back of his home when gunfire broke out around 8:50 p.m., police said.
His sister, who was at home, heard the shots and found Lewis mortally wounded in the basement corridor by the stairs leading to the backyard.
Lewis, who had no criminal record, was shot once in the chest, police said. Medics took him to the Jacobi Medical Center, where he later died.
Police sources said Lewis had just returned home. Detectives are investigating the possibility that the shooter followed him to his home before firing the fatal shot.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be confidential.
