Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings president and CEO steps down

Frank J. Del Rio will step down as president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings effective June 30, the cruise line announced on Monday. Harry J. Sommer, President and CEO of the Norwegian Cruise Line brand, will officially take over on July 31st. The transition process will start on April 1st.

Del Rio has been President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings since 2015. He led the company during the Covid pandemic that devastated it and the global cruise industry and its ongoing recovery. He is retiring and will serve as senior advisor to the board of directors until 2025. Del Rio has been in the cruise industry for over 30 years.

Sommer, Del Rio’s successor, has over 30 years of experience in the industry and has risen through the ranks at Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings in eight years. His previous positions include President of International Development, Executive Vice President of International Business Development and Director of Integration. Sommer will be replaced by David J. Herrera, who is currently director of sales and marketing for Norwegian Cruise Line.
