Noodle the Pug, ‘bones or no bones day’ dog owned by Upstate NY native, dies at 14

Noodle the Pug, the internet-famous dog best known for his “bones or no bones day” predictions in viral videos on social media, is dead at age 14.

Jonathan Graziano, the Upstate New York native who owned Noodle, announced on Instagram and TikTok that his beloved pooch died on Friday.

“I’m so sorry to have to share this, but Noodle passed yesterday,” Graziano said. “He was at home, he was in my arms. This is incredibly sad. It’s incredibly difficult. It’s a day that I always knew was coming but never thought would arrive… Although this is very sad, I wanted to let you know, and I wanted to encourage you to celebrate him while we’re navigating this sadness.”

“He lived 14 and a half years which is about as long as you can hope a dog can,” he continued. “And he made millions of people happy. What a run.”

Graziano, who grew up in Rochester and received a New York State Proclamation on Noodle’s behalf last year, adopted Noodle at 7. During the pandemic, Graziano gained 4.5 million followers on TikTok and 285,000 on Instagram by filming himself propping up Noodle to find out if the dog was ready for his morning walk. If Noodle plopped back down like he’s boneless, it’s a “no bones” day and followers are encouraged to practice self-care and be kind to themselves. If the pug stayed standing, it’s a “bones” day and fans should seize the day, reportedly inspiring marriage proposals and winning lottery tickets.

The videos went viral, gaining more than 100 million likes and making Noodle a canine celebrity.

Noodle’s story was immortalized in the book “Noodle and the No Bones Day,” written by Graziano and illustrated by Dan Tavis, earlier this year. The tale encourages readers of all ages to be kind to themselves.

Graziano thanked fans who embraced them and joked about Noodle’s “cheese ball full of meds.”

“Give your dog a cheese ball tonight, but it has to be the fake stuff,” he added.
