New York hospital to close in June
East Niagara Hospital in Lockport, New York, is due to close June 17 after years of financial turmoil.
The outpatient center operated by the hospital will close the same day but reopen immediately under the direction of Catholic Health in Buffalo, NY, ABC affiliate. WKBV reported March 17.
In November 2019, the hospital filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and signed a management agreement with Catholic Health. The health system planned to close East Niagara Hospital after the new Lockport Memorial Hospital opened in the same city; earlier this week, he named Maralyn Militello, BSN, RN, East Niagara’s latest CEO.
According to the WARN notice filed on March 16, the closure will affect 337 employees – 280 primary hospital employees and 57 outpatient center employees.
