New Upstate New York Concert Celebrating 50th Anniversary Summer Jam 1973

A new concert in upstate New York is planned to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the biggest music events of all time.

Summer Jam ’23: Watkins Glen 50th Anniversary Celebration will take place Saturday, July 29 at Lincoln Hill Farms in Canandaigua, NY; doors open at 15:00, music starts at 15:30. The show will feature performances by Friends of the Brothers – Tribute to Allman Brothers Band, Terrapin Flyer – Tribute to the Grateful Dead, and a TBA tribute to The Band.

Tickets are on sale now at tixr.com. Prices are $35 in advance and $45 on the day of the show; additional fees may apply.

The concert comes nearly 50 years after Summer Jam drew an estimated 600,000 fans to Watkins Glen on July 28, 1973. was one of the largest in US history; about 150,000 tickets were sold, but another 450,000 fans were admitted for free after they crowded a small Finger Lakes venue and created a traffic jam several miles long.

By comparison, the original 1969 Woodstock Festival drew over 400,000 people for three days of peace, love, and music at Bethel. Woodstock organizer Michael Lang planned to hold a Woodstock 50 concert in Watkins Glen in 2019, but the event did not take place due to financial and organizational problems.

Lincoln Hill Farms, located at 3792 NY-247 in Canandaigua, is about three miles from the CMAC (Constellation Brands – Marvin Sands Center for the Performing Arts) Amphitheater and 45 miles from Watkins Glen International, a race track at the southern end of Seneca Lake.

All shows at Lincoln Hill Farms are standing room only; no sun loungers. Folding chairs with a low back are only allowed for those who cannot stand for long periods of time. Limited seating and picnic tables are available in the hall on a first come, first served basis.
