New music festival to take place at original Woodstock site in upstate New York (report)

The new music festival arrives at the original Woodstock site in upstate New York.

The Mid-Hudson News reports that Bethel Woods CEO Eric Francis told regional tourism officials that an event at Max Yasgur’s farm in Bethel, New York, will be announced soon. A dairy farm near White Lake attracted over 400,000 people to the 1969 festival. , which featured legendary artists Richie Havens, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, Joan Baez, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Joe Cocker, The Grateful Dead and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

“We hope to be able to announce a new multi-day festival in August in a few weeks, as the main stage will be on the original ’69 course, which hasn’t been the case for decades, so we’re very excited,” says Francis. said last week.

Francis did not provide any details about the line-up or genres of artists who may perform. The original Woodstock was a mixture of rock, folk and funk, while the 94 and 99 anniversary festivals included modern rock, nu metal, hip hop and dance music.

It’s unclear if the new summer festival will have any connection to the Woodstock brand. Woodstock 50, the 50th anniversary concert featuring Jay-Z, Miley Cyrus and Santana, fell apart in 2019 due to organizational issues, missed payments and setbacks at the venue in Watkins Glen and later Vernon Downs.

The Bethel Woods Center for the Arts held its own 50th Anniversary celebration, featuring original performers such as Santana, John Fogerty, and Arlo Guthrie. The amphitheater is located near Yasgur’s farm and is home to the Woodstock Museum.

Upcoming concerts at the Bethel Woods Amphitheater: James Taylor (June 29), Robert Plant & Alison Krauss (July 1), Shania Twain (July 3), Big Time Rush (July 7), Jason Aldean (July 14), The Chicks (3 August), Goo Goo Dolls (August 6), Zac Brown Band (August 12), Joe Bnamassa & Styx with Don Felder (August 13) and Rod Stewart with Cheap Trick (September 1). There are currently no concerts scheduled for the weekend of August 18-20 or August 25-27, which could be potential dates for the new festival.
