NASA Student Launch Group at Balboa Park!

Members of the NASA Student Launch rocket project welcomed visitors to Balboa Park today!

NASA’s Student Launch Initiative is a competitive experimental challenge in which student teams design, build, and launch rockets and then analyze the results.

The challenge for 2023 is to design a rocket that will reach 5,000 feet. The rocket must autonomously receive NASA radio transmissions while controlling the maneuvering camera.

Students also meet with NASA engineers to present their discoveries!

The Hydra team from MATHmania Robotics, with members from Southern California, was at Balboa Park demonstrating how the rockets they have developed work. Why? NASA Student Launch members are also tasked with STEM training.

Children passing by were immediately attracted to the big rockets and eager to learn all about them!
