Modivcare Makes Leadership Change Official, Names L. Heath Sampson CEO

Modivcare Inc. (Nasdaq: MODV) announced it has made a familiar face the official leader of the company Tuesday.

L. Heath Sampson has been named the company’s president and CEO after holding the position of CEO on an interim basis since August.

“As we continue to align our people, processes and technology as one Modivcare, I am committed to driving the organization to new heights of performance, where we recognize that each member has a unique set of needs and their experience is our number one priority,” Sampson said in a statement. “Our supportive care platform directly addresses critical social determinants of health and positions us to meaningfully improve access to care and health outcomes.”

Before being named president and CEO, Sampson was the CFO of Modivcare, serving in that role since early 2021. Before Modivcare, he was the CEO of Advanced Emissions Solutions Inc.

Sampson will also continue to serve as the company’s CFO until his succeeder is found.

The Denver-based Modivcare is a provider of personal care, non-emergency medical transportation and meal delivery services.

In August, the company announced that Dan Greenleaf was no longer serving as the CEO or a member of the company’s board of directors.

Under Greenleaf’s leadership, Modivcare made substantial acquisitions and grew significantly.

In 2020, Modivcare acquired personal care services provider Simplura Health Group for $575 million.

The following year, it acquired another personal care provider — CareFinders — for $340 million and the remote-patient monitoring platform VRI for $315 million.

Following those moves, Greenleaf touted the company’s transformation and was particularly proud of how the company had become one of the top personal care and remote monitoring businesses in the space.

“Heath is a proven leader and we are confident he will drive results as Modivcare integrates and expands its best-in-class supportive care platform,” Chris Shackelton, chairman of the Modivcare board, said in a statement. “With deep operating and financial experience and a strong team around him, Heath is the right executive to lead Modivcare through the next stage of its transformation. There is significant untapped value embedded in our current businesses, with the potential to better serve members in ways no other model can provide.”
