Mayor Adams postpones hearing on his rat infestation complaints to focus on budget rollout

Tickets will have to wait.

Mayor Adams has rescheduled an administrative court hearing on a rodent infestation case he’s accumulated at his Brooklyn home so he can focus on rolling out his new budget plan, according to city records and his spokesman.

A hearing on the two rat receipts was originally scheduled for Thursday, but the Office of Administrative Hearings and Trial database shows it was delayed until Feb. 9.

Adams spokesman Fabien Levy said the rodent-hating mayor asked for a delay because he was “focused on the upcoming pre-budget.”

A City Hall source confirmed that Adams is expected to release its preliminary fiscal year 2024 budget on Thursday, kicking off a months-long negotiation process with the City Council.

OATH spokeswoman Marisa Senigo said Adams personally approached her office to delay the hearing. “All defendants are allowed to reschedule the date of the first hearing once,” she added.

As the Daily News first reported, Adams was slapped with two fines on Dec. 7, a day after he got a previous rat infestation summons he received at his Bedford-Stuyvesant home last May dismissed. The final tickets state that Adams was unable to resolve the “containment conditions” of the vile creatures and that there is a “rat hole” in the yard of his house.

The mayor, who has made rat eradication a cornerstone of his political agenda, told reporters last week he will be challenging the new fines, which carry a maximum fine of $1,200, because he said he did his best to control the pests on his property. .

“I look forward to being a chocolate Perry Mason when I go to court to plead my case,” he said last Wednesday. “I have solid evidence that I’m going to present to the court, and it shows that I’m doing well.”
