Man fatally shot on Brooklyn street

A man was shot and killed on a street in Brooklyn on Tuesday, according to police.

Officers alerted to the firing by the NYPD’s Shot Spotter detection system located the wounded 40-year-old victim on E. 83rd near Flatlands Ave. in Canarsie around 3:00 pm, police said.

The man was wounded in the torso.

Police sources said the shooter fled in a gray Toyota Highlander SUV towards the Belt Parkway.

A man working at a nearby coffee shop described the chaotic scene as the victim bled to death on the sidewalk.

“The guy was lying face up in the street, bleeding. God, he was bleeding,” recalls 26-year-old Aiden Huck. “People were running and screaming. They rocked him in the chest, but he didn’t react.”

Medics took the victim to Brookdale Hospital, but they could not save him.

Police were still working to find the shooter early Tuesday evening.

“It’s just crazy here,” Hooke said. “I don’t feel safe here anymore.

The name of the victim was not immediately released.
