Laughing Pony Rescue Rancho Santa Fe rescued 20 foals

The nonprofit organization Laughing Pony Rescue Rancho Santa Fe has announced a fundraiser to place 20 orphaned foals in a Washington state facility where they are protected from slaughterhouses or other inhuman treatment.

These foals are now in Benton City, Washington at Sugar Shack Horses, Laughing Pony’s “rescue sister”. They are also among the thousands of horses, donkeys and other farm animals that Laughing Pony has rescued since its launch over 10 years ago.

Celia Sciacca, president of Laughing Pony, said she wants to continue to raise awareness of Laughing Pony and the work she does with the animals at her Santa Fe ranch and other facilities around the country.

“Our donors have been great, but now we need more donors to fulfill our mission and we need volunteers,” Shakka said.

She added that the mothers of the foals were sold to slaughterhouses or separated from their offspring for other purposes.

“How can it be legal for people to profit from the neglect and mistreatment of these magnificent creatures?” Shaka said. “Horses built the United States of America on their backs, and we must work to ensure that horses receive the dignity, respect, and treatment they deserve.”

Horses are usually sent to slaughter by owners who no longer want to care for them. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the last slaughterhouses in the US closed in 2007, but the underground market has survived. Horses that are slaughtered are often stuffed into trucks and transported for more than 24 hours without food or water, according to the US Humane Society.

Laughing Pony Rescue is also trying to recruit more volunteers who can help with tasks such as caring for animals at the Santa Fe Ranch. An increase in the number of volunteers also helps ensure that the organization’s funding goes towards rescues and other animal support efforts.

“Sharing this story is just one example of how we are working towards positive outcomes, and we can continue to do so with the help of additional donors as well as volunteers,” said Kelly Arrillaga, Laughing Pony volunteer.

Laughing Pony also takes children to week-long camps where they learn how to feed and care for horses and other farm animals.

In addition to more volunteers, Laughing Pony Rescue is also open to anyone who wants to visit and learn more about his work.

The ranch is located at 7143 Via Del Charro in Rancho Santa Fe. For more information, visit the laughter site ponyrescue.com.
